PHP 5.3.23

Following the instructions here:
http://xoops.gitbooks.io/xoops-installation-guide/content/book/ch9.html

This URL threw a 404 error.
http://www.level-of-consciousness.org/upgrade

I did try to upgrade via: Modules and clicking the update button on in the System Row. It's now showing System version 2.11

It's also displaying:
Powered by XOOPS 2.5.7.1
So I think that worked.

Thanks

I saw this:https://xoops.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=83
But it hasn't been updated since 2006.
The Visual Guide doesn't match the current structure of the Xoops installation package.
http://www.warpigw2.com/modules/smartsection/item.php?itemid=17

I started my FTP client and dragged the contents of htdocs to the level-of-consciousness.org folder
I can't log into the site now.
When I enter my username and password, I'm redirected to user.php which is a completely blank page.

I'm getting about 100 spam submissions everyday but the form doesn't even render.

I tried setting up Protector.
I also attempted to update to Xoops 2.5.7.1, but my installation failed somehow.

I have set:
Allow new user registration? No.

Notify by email when a new user is registered? No

Yet I still get Confirmation emails from spam registrations that don't make it to the database.

I cleared each of the caches.
I still get new user registrations.

I also manually delete the files in xoops_data/cache/

How is it possible that the setting shows correctly in Admin Settings:
Notify by email when a new user is registered? set to No

but the behavior exhibited is that it's set to Yes?

Is there a PHP console or something that would allow me to inspect the global settings?

I am having a problem with one of the cache settings.

I have this settings:
Home> Preferences > User Info Settings
Notify by email when a new user is registered? set to No

However, I still get new user registrations.
Somehow the cache must be storing that data.

I have cleared the Cache settings with the tools under the Maintainence tabs.
I still get 20+ user registration alerts a day.

Xortify 4.12 not helping with spam and blocking legitimate posts

I installed xoops2.5_xortify_4.12 as per the instructions.
The installation seems to have gone correctly as I was able to install the Xortify module via Xoops admin.
I set the preferences as best as I understand them.

Overnight, there seemed to be almost no reduction in the Spam registrations.( about 20)
However, all of my users were banned from posting to my forums and from sending private messages.

I've had to turn Xortify off.
What did I do wrong in the setup?

What should the settings be to allow my members to post?

How do I install Xortify 4.11?

I downloaded the Xortify module xoops2.5_xortify_4.11

you linked to but I'm unsure how to install.

I uploaded the entire module to my Server modules/, but Xortify did not show up in the Module Admin section.

I found this:
"Download the lastest version from Chronolabs on Google code or off sourceforge. Unzip the archive you should have a folder called 'htdocs' in the unzipped location. Copy the contents of 'htdocs' folder to your CMS root path this is generally a folder called 'public_html' or 'www' on your FTP service of your website. Log into your CMS and goto the modules/applications installation section, this is generally in your system control area under modules. Click on the icon that represent installing the module. If all has behaved as need be then your module is installed. If your module requires a user licences, keys or a username then sign-up to the apprpriate sites and retreieve your keys or IDs (Links should be provided in the preferences) and paste the values into preferences. Now your right to go!"

I deleted the package and uploaded the contents of xoops2.5_xortify_4.11/htdocs to the server to modules/xortify

Still Xortify does not show up the the Module Admin.

It seems the issue is the package doesn't include all the directories:

htdocs
class/
modules/
xoops_lib/

I looked at xoop2.6_xortify_4.11 and it does contain different files.

Will xoop2.6_xortify_4.1 work with Xoops 2.5.6?

Where is Xortify installation documentation?

I can't seem to get into the Admin section to control Protector 3.4 .
I uninstalled the module and reinstalled it, still a blank page.

I also looked at the files uploaded onto the server.

/modules/protector/admin/index.php

The file was there.

What is preventing the Protector admin page from rendering?
