Is the xoops-svn the best place to get updated module?

I pulled the most recent version of NewBB 4.33 from:
svn checkout svn://svn.code.sf.net/p/xoops/svn/ xoops-svn

I uploaded the newBB code to my Xoops 2.5.7.1 setup.

When I clicked update Module from the Admin, the entire site went down.

What did I do wrong?

How are we supposed to install newBB 4.33

I'm using CBB 3.0.8
I did update it.

There were no Smarty Template Debug messages.


The only error that showed up in the PopUp debug was:
I checked Preferences >> General Settings and the Server and Default timezones were set to EST.

None All Errors (1) Deprecated (0) Queries (21) Blocks (0) Extra (2) Timers(6)
Errors
Warning: strftime(): It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'America/New_York' for 'EST/-5.0/no DST' instead in file /hsphere/local/class/smarty/plugins/modifier.date_format.php line 53


I'm still getting about 100 spam a day.

I was upgrading from 2.5.6 to 2.7.1

I uploaded upgrade/ again and run it from the URL bar.

No upgrade necessary. Please update system module and remove this folder from your server

I changed the XOOPS_DB_PREFIX as advised in the Protector Security Advisory. It had been set to the default.
The site is rendering, the Polls module works, but the Forum posts are not displaying.

I checked the DB's using PHPmyAdmin and the new tables are the same file sizes as the Xoops labeled ones.

Any suggestions on how I can get the forum rendering posts again?

As I mentioned earlier, I've upgraded to Xoops 2.5.7.1,

Doesn't Xoops run the /upgrade folder when you click the Update button from modules/system/admin.php ?

Going to modules/profile/admin/field.php
Location is set as required.

However, a Location field does not show up:
modules/profile/register.php

I updated the User Profile Module to 1.86 Final @ noon.

I confirmed both:
3) In the Profile module, go to Admin and in the Basic step located at:

/modules/profile/admin/step.php?id=1

set the "Save after stop" to "No"

4) Starting with XOOPS 2.5.7, in Preferences for the Profile module, set the "Use Captcha after the second Registration step" option to "Yes" (it is the default)


40 minutes latter I have still received 15 spam messages.
I had 100 last night.

What else can I try?

I attempted to do what you suggested:

However, the only option was:

User Profile »» Preferences
Show latest activities on user profile Yes / No (Yes Selected)

I did have at least one registration step, but it appears to have vanished after the upgrade to 2.5.7.1

I looked through these documentshttp://xoops.gitbooks.io/xoops-installation-guide/content/book/appendix1.html

and didn't see anything about creating the Registration Steps.

Another 100 spam messages last night.

I'm running Xoops 2.5.7.1

Is there nothing that can be done to stop the Spam in Xoops?

I had another 100 spam messages from Xoops last night.

What can I do to stop this spam?

I had most of the those settings already set.

The only one not set was:

I'm not sure I understand what it's asking.
Is the Profile module the "User Profile" module?

I still got 75 spam messages last night.
