Suggestions for moderated shoutbox functionality?

I'm interested in creating a block on my home page that works like a shoutbox but the content can be moderated before it shows up.

I want to call it "Zen of Water Polo" and let people put in very short tips or philosophies that can be shown on the front page.

It occurs to me that an existing module might be able to be used for this, but I'm not sure which one. Here's what I need...

* I don't really care about registrations on my site... it is mainly for informational purposes. Therefore, anyone (including an anonymous user) that wants to submit a "quote" must be able to enter both their "nickname" and the "quote".

* The entries must be moderated to keep anonymous users from posting something lewd. After approval, they will show up in the block.

* The block shows the list of quotes/entries, consisting of the nickname and the quote. A scrollbar lets users scroll through it.

* I want to keep all the accepted entries, even if not all of them are shown in the block. This implies random entries or last x entries are shown in the scrolling list in the block.

* It would be nice if they could make the entries directly from the block, but since I need to let them know their entries will be moderated, it might make more sense for them to click a "Enter a quote" link and either go to an entry page in the framework or enter the quote in a pop-up window.

Any ideas how I can use existing modules and blocks to do this?

Thanks!

Suggestions for handling multiple teams?

I'm looking at using XOOPS for a club sports team site, but it is really a "superclub" that has four separate teams in it. I.E., men's team, women's team, HS girl's team, HS boys team.

Many items are common to all teams, but news, schedules, etc.. are different for each.

Any suggestions for the best way to organize the site to handle this?

Version?

Is there a quick way to tell which version of XOOPS you are using?

I installed mine a while back and can't remember which version I used. I need the information to decide which updates to install to get up to 2.0.7.1.

Thanks!

Re: How do I turn off Forums menu item while not logged in?

Figured it out. For some reason the anonymous group had access rights to the forums.

I went to System Admin->Groups and modified the Anonymous User rights and removed access to the forums for them.

How do I turn off Forums menu item while not logged in?

When not logged in, I have two menu items: Home and Forums.

For users that have not logged in, I only want the Home menu item to show up. But once logged in, I want the Forums menu item to show up on the menu.

Any idea why my Forums item is showing up even before the user logs in?

Help!

Re: Forum link only displays once logged on

I'm having the opposite problem.

My forum link is showing up in the main menu both before and after users login. I only want it to show up when the users login.

Does anyone know how to make the Forums menu item in the main menu only show up after logging in?
