does anyone know what's involved in the newbb2.01_to_newbb2.02.php script that you have to run during the upgrade?

Ok, I'm not very technically savvy when it comes to web development, in fact. I know pretty much nothing.

I have built up a community using this engine with over a thousand registered users and a forum with 35,419 posts. Which may not sound like a lot, but it's a lot for us, about 2 years worth.

In any case I'm currently running the 2.01 version of newbb and would like to upgrade to the latest 2.02, don't know yet if CBB is what we need. Last time I tried to upgrad I lost everything and when I tried to put my backup files back it didn't interact with the database properly and wouldn't pull up old posts.

I'm also running 2.0.9.3 version of XOOPS and would like to upgrade to the latest version however I'm running a bunch of hack scripts (auto-login, different message system, etc.) that might not work after the upgrade. I'm not even sure where I would get the files to move from 2.0.9.3 to current. I didn't see them hosted on this site.

Any advise for a lazy admin who forgot/was afraid to upgrade?

All of the sudden people are having trouble posting on my site. It gives them a 404 error sometimes when they're trying to post and. When I change settings, as in where blocks are and such, they don't save.

I've changed my admin password and I've turned the site off. Anyone know what might be causing this?

Please... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

yea, but you can use a thickbox to play a video and everything, like I have here.

All I want to do is replace or add a button to the forum post tools that would allow the users to give a link to an image or video and instead of it showing in page, it pops up in this nice looking thickbox.

kinda lame looking but you could always use Gabbly Chat. You can either make it free floating or embed it like I did on a site I made for a client.

bumping...

I think if we could get this to be the default in newbb there could be a lot of bandwidth and page load times saved.

I've always liked his work. I'm using a modified version of one of his themes on my site now. BornSlacker.com

Problem: Someone posts a pic and it's so large that it widens the piss out of the entire forum.

Solution 1. That person makes a link to the image that will open in another window... how boring.

Solution 2. "Thickbox". What's a "thickbox" you may ask? Well, the easiest way to explain it, is to show you. Click here to see example.

As you can see it pops up the picture on top of the window that you're using. all you need is two java files and to name the class for those java files in the html link... like so...

<a href="linktoImage" title="Add a caption" class="thickbox"><img src="linkToImageThumbnail" alt="Image" /></a>

Here's where my question is...

When you click on the little icon to insert an image at the top of the forum form, it asks you for a url and if you'd like to align it left or right.

Then it fills in the bbcode for you...

Well, How would I make the button ask you for a link... and then get it to spit out some bbcode that would then translate into the html code that I've listed above?

This way people could simply fill the form out and instead of a huge picture in the forums, it's dispalyed nicely in the (no need for a new window) nice "thickbox".

actually i'm using XOOPS as well. My websit is setup to use left column, center, and right column. I'm using the news spotlight module (center) and the wfsection spotlight (center weight 2) and then recent topics (center weight 3). Hope this helps.
