How can I bug check my system to see why the counter doesn't work?

Hi,

I have a problem whereby all counters on my site (www.grandz.net/dragonfly/) undercount the actual visitor numbers andsubsequently all the other stats. I use PHP stats which functions fine (as do the other XOOPS based module counters) apart from the fact that it undercounts - it seems to count registered users only.

Is there a programme or feature i can use to check the database for irregualrities in permissions or recognition of users as anonymous, registered etc?

At the moment, i can't find the root cause. If i could be pointed in the right direction or had a tool to root out the database (or other) error I could assess whether I have to start all again.

In the event i start again (my backups may have also backed up the problem) - is there a way i could store critical info (say wfsection pages & piCal events etc) and just reinstall to a blank site without having to install all the old permissions or core code again?.

Hoping someone can help me cause my business progress is stuck without it.

thanks to you all out there for your hard work. XOOPS rules

Bizarre Counter Problem - A Challenge

Hi,

I run XOOPS 2.0.6 on Apache SQL. I've tried to get multiple counter programes working on my site but all of them fall prey to an 'undercounting problem' - i tested this live with a friend who came to the site as an anonymous user and the counter (php.stats - a very extensive stats gatherer) did not tick over. When my friend logged into my site it also faied to count. It does count sporadically but i suspect it is counting registered users visits only at best and perhaps not all of those. We have identified the problem as NOT residing in the modules / php programmes used to count but perhaps an sql error in the database - we've been trying to solve this for over 8 months without luck.

The only thing i can think of related to this is that i have a quirk in my groups settings whereby when i add a new block as webmaster, registered users get automatically added to the list that can see the block (should only be webmasters). My Blocks listing page also defaults to the registered users filter not webmaster as required. I suspect some sql error in group permissions.... although this is at best a stab in the dark as i am a content manager rather than a programmer. Database work is still a fairly new and potentially dangerous task for me.

If anyone out there can think of a possible reason and solution for these problems i would of course skip cartwheels across fresh snow naked and smear myself in peanut butter as payment and celebration!

My site is www.djtaiwan.org (counter center bottom on the english site home page -http://www.grandz.net/dragonfly/)

Many thanks in desparation,

A warning to users of the Fireworks dhtml menu in XOOPS ... only one menu can be supported on any 1 page so if you want le your menu to appear on all pages you will not be able to use similar menus on the site. I got around this by selecting my menu only for those pages already without a dhtml menu.

Not sure why and perhaps my menu si working as a fluke but it does and it seems stable though i think the load up time probably decreases the overall speed of my page loads....

hope this helps

Hey,

check out djtaiwan.org

top left is my new menu. all working (i think - no complaints yet)

How? oK...hold your breath beacause this is too easy -

use Macromedia fireworks and create a hotspot drop down menu - more advanced users could layer the main menu items so that they too are animated on roll over.

Export & save the image file (gif or jpg) and upload the mm_menu.jps file to the root directory where the menu will reside.

Export again but this time as 'html & Images' & select 'copy to clipboard'. Then paste the contents into Frontpage - modify the locations for the menu image and the .jps file, preview and test then copy all into a block and insert.

voila!

hope this helps
sothink caused so many layout issues.

Hi,

I got the sothink menu and created a dhtml menu which i inserted into a block. So far so good. However, I have two remaining problems:

1. I get an error message relating to a line in my index.php file for the homepage. The actual line referred to is not a 'code' line.

2. the menu width seems to be determined by XOOPS so the main menu fits the block exactly (the right width - looks great) but sub menus open up to the entire width of the page obsuring the other main menu options and the page behind it.

Do I need to change a setting in XOOPS or the Sothink programme to contain the width of the submenus or do i need to insert the menu into the theme file and if so how would i do this?

many thanks

I may have to move my site lock stock and barrel to a new location. I have the whole site saved in a tar.gz zip file and I have the database.sql backup file. I have found a new XOOPS compatible server but I want to know if i can create a new blank XOOPS site and simply import my files and folders to the root location and install the saved database file? and how....

I run XOOPS 2.0.6:

I successfully(?) added a number of small javascript menus into my site by inserting them into blocks. See 'Profiles' or 'News' onhttp://www.grandz.net/dragonfly/

My only problem is that ic an have no more than 1 javascript function on the same page. For example, my javascript menu for 'Profiles' sits at the top of each wfsections page. If I try to create an article with an animated jpg (using javascript and html) it will not work because I am already running javascript in the menu above it.

Similarly, I cannot have two different javascript menus (using blocks) in the same column nor can I put any other blocks after the javascript menu because the menu seems to sit 'above' the XOOPS template.

Do I need to insert the code into the theme.html file and if so how do i do this?

Been trying to figure this out for a long time so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running XOOPS 2.0.6.
many thanks

Me too,

I run 2.0.6 (recently upgraded from 2.0.5) and Liaise 1.2 which worked fine for a while and then suddenly, my system stops sending out notifications and even the basic Contact module doesn't work. Again, i checked system/admion/preferences/mail setup and tried all the variants to no avail.

Anybody know why this might happen?
Also: How do you 'hardlog' XOOPS so that it completes the upgrade from 2.0.5 to 2.0.6 fully?

I run XOOPS 2.0.6 on msql server and use win xp (SP2) & IE6.

Recently my XOOPS site stopped sending mail. When using the Contact module or Liaise 1.2, the process of filling and sending the form completes without a problem but then no message is recieved at my admin email. I tried sending a mail to webmasters through the Admin section with the same result. This is a recent development as the mail function worked about 2 weeks ago.

I also upgraded XOOPS 2.0.5 to 2.0.6 but the footer on my homepage shows 2.0.5. In administration it shows 2.0.6. Someone suggested that my XOOPS version was not hardlogged but i am unable to find out what this means or how to fix this issue.

In the meantime any messages sent via phpmail or sendmail fail to get through.

Does anyone know what might cause this?
thanks

Using javascript menus in an Xoops block

Hi,

I use XOOPS 2.0.6 and I'm looking to use a javascript menu in my home page. I have the following issue:

A). I create the javascript menu in Fireworks and export to Frontpage and convert to HTML.

B). I create a new block for the home page right column and insert the html code. Result: Javascript menu appears in its block (the last block 4th in the column) and is functional.

C). If I want to change the order of the blocks so the javascript menu block is not last (4th), i.e.
1.User menu block,
2 Javascript block,
3.Weather block,
4.Events block -

... The java script block sits on top of the block above it = very ugly and potentially dangerous.

My Question: How to I integrate this javascript into XOOPS so that i can place the block in any order on the page? The same issue occurs on other pages too.

Hope you can help. Many thanks
Ben
