I just signed up with Surpass after trying out 3 other hosts this past week alone.

The last host, I had for about 2 months, and there were too many issues that just took waaayy too long to deal with. My email stopped working and after a month they still couldn't fix it. Adios!!

Getting started with Surpass was quite easy. I chose the OC10 reseller package.

No matter what host I've signed up with over the past 5 years or so, there has always been at least a couple of glitches in the begining. No different with Surpass. But support dealt with them in a timely and efficient maner, and all has been going smoothly since.

They do have a lot of useful information on the site for their clients. And I've found many answers already in the forums, so I didn't even have to post the questions. Just like at xoops!!

No complaints from here so far.

Here is their claim:

"CNET & Web Host Magazine Editor’s Choice - $6.95/mo!"

I may be interested in their VPS service and would appreciate any comments. Reading through their fine print one can find quite a few additional (installation) fees...

They use HSP control panel which I've never heard of, but they don't offer a demo.

They do have toll free 7 day phone support, during business hours I presume.

Blocks refuse to stay set

Note: I have also just posted this on bbpixel in case it is a problem with their X-IPB module.

Applied XOOPS 2.09 update patch. Installed X-IPB module 1.4Ga. PHP 4.3.10. MySQL 4.0.22 standard.

All is well except for one thing. While trying to set blocks in XOOPS admin section, if I set up blocks for one page like top, and then set up blocks for ipb page (message board), blocks for all pages are reset to whatever my last changes were.

I'll try to make that a little more clear. Let's say that I only want blocks to appear on the left side of the IPB page. But on the sections page I want blocks on the left and the right. So I setup the blocks for IPB, check it out and all is well, blocks only on left as desired. Next I select the sections page and setup blocks for the left and right. When I check out the sections page I have blocks on both sides as it should be. However, when I then check out the IPB page I now have blocks on both sides! This will happen repeatedly.

I don't know if this is a XOOPS or IPB module issue. I have another installation (summer of 04) of XOOPS 2.06x or 2.07x and IPB module 1.3x(?) and it functions just fine.

Any suggestions?

Whoops! Forgot to mention 1 step. After reactivating the IPB module, update the sys admin module.

I just tried something that seems to work so far.
1. Deactivate the IPB module.
2. Go into the system admin --> preferences --> users info settings, and reset to admin activation.
3. Do a test to make sure it works correctly. Mine did.
4. Reactivate the IPB module.
5. Test. Again mine worked this time. I've only done 1 test though.

Post it here if it works for you.
BTW, I will set IPB for Using userCP of xoops=no, and using registration of xoops=yes. We'll see if admin activation still works afterward.

Good luck.

Doesn't anybody care to take a stab at this? I reinstalled XOOPS and ipb and still have the same problem.

I did not think to check at bbpixel, but I'll do that now. In the mean time I would appreciate some advice on this.

Thanks to all.

Go to bbpixel.com and scroll way down on the page. Please excuse me if I misinterpreted your question.

Having just checked it out myself, I see that there is an updated IPB module. I doubt that this has anything to do with my problem, but I'll see what happens with the update.

I transfered my site from my home Linux box to the host. The only problem that I am having at this point is activation.

I have set via 'user info settings' to admin activation. Checking directly with the database confirms this: xoops2_config --> conf_name --> activation_type = admin.

However, when a user registers, they are sent the 'user activate email' which does work. Going back into user info settings shows that the drop down is reset to user activate. No matter how many times I try to reset this, it does not change.

I am using the IPB module. Using usercp system of XOOPS = no. Using registration system of XOOPS = yes. This worked ok on my test box.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

xoops 2.07
apache - 2 different servers: (xoops)1.3.6, (mysql)2.0.46
mysql 4.0.15
php 4.3.2

From my original post...

I've never heard of anything like this before either. I'm completely baffled.

First, I'll say that I solved the immediate problem.

Far below is what I was originally going to post, but I thought I would research this problem a little more. I found "Troubleshooting Blank Page" in the Wiki. If I only did that first!

What I discovered by turning on debugging in MySQL was that Smarty was not able to write in the directories cache, templates_c, etc. Now I know that I changed the permissions beforehand or I never would have gotten past the first couple of install pages. Right? After reading the debug info, I went back to check the directory permissions and sure enough they had changed to 400, along with mainfile.php. So I changed the 3 directories to 777 and mainfile to 444. Viola! Works like a charm now. Didn't even have to re-install.

So now the question is, what caused the permissions to change?! Is there possibly a bug in the install scripts that coincidentally found a flaw in my system?

I have a symlink in my home directory pointing to /srv/www/htdocs. Of course permissions are set to allow me to write into anything else there. I had changed the permissions on the xoops2 files via Konqueror. Could there be a flaw in the gui that prevents my original changes from "sticking" (for lack of a more intelligent term)? Maybe I should have changed permissions from a console?

Here is the earlier nonsense:
-----------------------------------------------------
SuSE 9.1 (Box at home, not on host)
MySQL 4.0.18-32 max
PHP 4.3.4
Apache 2.0.49
xoops 2.7

I've installed XOOPS several times now and have had it working quite well. This time, I go through all of the installation pages with no errors. However, usually one of the last pages says to remove the install directory and change the permissions on mainfile.php back to 444. I did not get this page this time. I am taken directly to the link page that takes you to the login page for the first time. When I click on "Here", I get a completely blank white page. In the address bar;http://localhost/xoops2/index.php.

phpMyAdmin works just fine and shows that 31 tables have been created in db xoops2.

The funny thing is, the first time I installed it on this system it went smooth as silk, only took me 5-10 minutes. Then I had a major system crash after doing some online updates, and had to reformat /boot and / partitions. Ever since then, XOOPS gives me the blank screen.

I have tried installing it several times with the exact same result. I re-downloaded it, and tried v2.6 and still no success. Me-thinks it's a system issue.
