Cookies, which store authentiication information, are domain-based... As I see - you change host's domain, thus - old authentification ignored for new hostname.
I have almost the same problem in case of multisiting with common userbase, and have only ideas how it can be solved (by dirty hack), not ready to use solution

Yes... but even they was Mambo-team as I know (maybe wrong) Miro provides
- PR
- finances for exhibition

... not direct management of project

And the desire of hard, autoritative ownership of project from Miro's side became the reason for "riot aboard the ship"

If we count on

Both projects have published gallery of developments teams members - they are
- bigger
- decentralised

I lost inerest to Mambo (it's slightly different case, compared to XOOPS... as I see it), but Joomla's About Us will say all - who works, there works, how works, how they show real, not mythical Team on site
