Comment System Needs Changing

XOOPS' comments system is kind of a let down for anonymous users as it doesn't allow for them to enter a username. It's fine for those who have accounts but if you're running a site that doesn't allow accounts it means that there is no way to identify posts from anonymous users unless they conciously put their name at the end of the post.

What the comments system needs is a couple of extra fields that allows users to enter their name, website address, and then their comment as well as some ability to save these details for the next time they come to the site.

Just a suggestion.

Thanks. Found that option, eventually it. It's slightly different under 2.2.3, you have to do it under the General Settings of the Profiles module.

I would like to build a XOOPS site that only I can do anything with and I would really like to stop people trying to create user accounts on my site.

Is this possible and if so how?

Thanks for your tips people.

How do you export users from one XOOPS database into another? More importantly one XOOPS database is XOOPS 2.0.7 and the other is XOOPS 2.2.3.

There is one other thing you might like to check.

In MainFile.php there is a line that tells you the address of the site, e.g.http://127.0.0.1.

I noticed that on my site there was a trailing /. XOOPS still worked but every time I clicked on a link it would log me out and when I logged in again it would bring up this error.

I only noticed the error when my URL bar kept showing:http://127.0.0.1//modules/news etc.

Double check mainfile.php and remove any trailing / from the URL.

Also don't forget to set the permissions correctly.

I had a similar issue, although my categories are set to upload as BLOBs instead of as files.

It would say it posted but it would not actually post the image. I set the Admin permissions of the category to all and this fixed the issue.

Thanks, that's fixed my issue.

Now if only I can sort out the mimetype issue thats preventing the uploading of PNG images.

The easiest way is like what BarryC said by selecting the folder and doing an Apple i, going to Ownership & Permissions then open Details and change all drop-down menus to Read & Write then click the Apply to enclosed items button, this would change everything to Read & Write (equivalent is 777) for everything in the directory.

The other way is fire up Terminal and chmod from there like so:

cd ~/
sudo chmod -R 777 sites

The example I used is due to me keeping my test site in the Sites folder under my login.

cd ~/

This changes the directory to my home folder which points to my login, i.e. lowededwookie

Of course you would CD to whereever your site is hosted.

sudo chmod -R 777 sites

This forces an admin strength (sudo) chmod to do a recursive (-R) permission setting of Read & Write (777) to the sites directory. Just a note with this. The sites directory is actually labelled Sites and not sites. UNIX is case sensitive but MacOS X is not so on MacOS X Sites and sites are actually one and the same. It maybe an idea to practise case sensitivity if your real site is hosted on a Linux/UNIX site other than MacOS X.

Okay I think I have something on the CatAds front.

My XOOPS setup was based on my current XOOPS 2.0.3 setup then upgraded to XOOPS 2.2.1.

On blowing away the entire install and doing a fresh install of XOOPS 2.2.1 I can get CatAds working fine. Cat, do you have any idea why this would happen? Is it a MySQL error or a XOOPS error?

If I can get this program sorted then I will seriously look at upgrading my site within the next couple of months. One question though. I have changed the currency options to $, £, and € but CatAds displays these AFTER the value instead of before. What file do I edit and what option displays the currency?

Sorry this was just a sort of basic what works for me and what doesn't.

Here's a list of details for my test machine:

System: 2004 iBook running MacOS X.4 (Tiger)
Browser: Safari, Camino, IE
Web System: Apache 1.3, PHP 4.3.11 (safe_mode: off, register_globals: off), MySQL 4.1.12

CatAds 1.4 will create a blank page after entering the category details and does not create the category.

CatAds 1.23 will not post instead brings up an error but it doesn't say what the error is.

Looking forward to the new version of XFGuestbook. Actually the error I was having was that it appeared to post the entry but it never shows.

I just tested WeBlog 1.4 and I can't do anything in the administration pages. All I get is blank pages. Everything except the main pages. I can't do categories, can't do priviledges, can't do database, can't do blocks. All blank pages.
