Re: Installation aborted

Probably due to PHP5 not recognizing HTTP_XXX_VARS by default (it's in the php.ini somewhere, I believe, and is called something like "long var names")

XOOPS does not claim to be PHP5 compatible and we do know that there are things not working - so do a search for PHP5 compatibility and you should find some more hints on how to get XOOPS working with PHP5.

Re: Registration Codes

Thanks very much for all the comments and kudos tklee.

Here's my thoughts...

Quote:

changed? May I suggest wrapping those added codes with a condition statement so if the module is not installed, those codes will get skipped?)

The user account creation form does check to see if the reg_codes datatable exists (ie: the module is installed) and if it does, then the registration code is asked for. If the table does not exist, then the form does not include the box for registration code.

So if you leave the hacked files in place but remove the module, then the account creation process should be exactly as if the hacked files were not present.

Registration Keys is admin-only tool so the webmasters have to do everything; Registration Codes provides the "group invitation by group member" function. That's really cool. I also found automatic expiration very useful.

Thanks!

About the randomly generated password, I'd suggest it being optional. Making it optional allows us to use meaningful keywords to invite people.

Good point. Security is a big concern for our sites, since clients use them for important, confidential business information, so they didn't want guessable or easily crackable codes, that's why they were made random (though only six characters doesn't make them that hard to crack, but anyway, they're not dictionary words).

I agree though, it would be a good addition if you had the option of typing in a word that you wanted to use for your code. Maybe that will go in a future version.

I've found, among other things, that the registration code box is a required field, so there's no point in having the word 'Optional' beside it. So there's a few polish-related things like that which could go in another release.

Thanks one and all for the interest!

Hi to all.
I have an Operating Sistem Windows XP,
Php 5.0.1 is installed over IIS 6 and works fine,
MySQL 4.0.17 idem.

Now I have created a folder in the drive c:\ named xoops,
in this folder I've copied files and folder extracted from directory 'html' xoops-2.0.7.3.tgz so as they are, the files /folder in c:\xoops are in R/W for everyone.
I've created new virtual directory that point to c:\xoops.

Finally I've called the installation procedure froma my browser so:

http://ComputerName/xoops/index.php

the CMS reply with new address and with 'welcome module'
http://ComputerName/xoops/install/index.php

then if I click on the [NEXT] button the CMS reply with the same page.

Where I mistake ?
An Idea?

Thanks to all

Just notices. They don't affect the operation of the module at all. Thanks,

I believe Rossi is working on adding in this kind of feature, but I'm not certain.

We are really busy with some newly launched client sites right now, but we do have plans for some advanced administration module(s) in the near future, and this kind of registered- users-can-join-groups-themselves feature might find its way in there.

Saw this in my logs just this morning from 84.233.148.22

/modules/xoopsfaq/index.php?PHPSESSID=11de6b2531082d6f4a05f0a2429dc805

FAQ is my start page.

Have never seen anything like it before. Just applied the 2.0.7.3 patch.

To hsalazar:

I did some of things you suggested such as made the line height of fonts greater and removing that blue bar.. I didn't quite understood what you meant in the point three of your suggestion. Also, i searched for tiny content download but i can't find the working link or up to date module download. Anyway.. i currently use multimenu and edit those static pages in html editors such as mozilla composer and bluefish. It's not too much of a hassle and it's good for my HTML/PHP experience and learning. And i don't know if that spaw editor in tiny content would work in mozilla and alike browsers that i use (mostly firefox). I heard that it works in IE only, but i'm not sure.
Anyway.. thanks for suggestions.

To Iolai:

I did most of what you suggested. I however still left the register now and lost password links in the login block since i somehow preffer all login related stuff on one place, that is, in that block. I don't think it's a big deal anyway..probably comes down to personal preference. I think it's fine the way it's now. I did however tried to put the login form in the horizontal manner at that bar, but i couldn't make it fit like it should so i quit wasting my time on that.
Besides that, i removed the linux banner network completely since it seems not to work very well for me.. the service looks crappy in the first place.. I don't know if theres any similar free open source software/linux banner exchange service anywhere?

Thank you for your great suggestions. Thanks to you guys the site looks much better than it did in the first place.
Now, i promised to give you Iolai a review for your site. I'll get on to it somewhere today.

Thanks again
Daniel

I know I could do this but I don't want to because I'm developing Advance Themes for Xoops.

Mostly Everything will be depend on the Theme files and with a few custom templates for redirect page, closed site etc.

I fixed it, it work fine now. Thank anyways!
