I wonder if anyone can explain (in a simple, for non programmers way) the difference between these hacks. I currently use one of them (I believe its jan's) and it seems to work, users stay logged for the time that I specify the custom session to last. I have setted that in minutes to a day, I would like to set it longer (like some sites I visit where I'm never logged out) but I read someplace that it wasnt a good idea, because of performance issues with the server.

What i wonder is if these new hack by andrey will let me set it so that users never log out (unless they want to). I guess I am missing something here, but thats why a good explanation would help

In my hack (I do not know as in the others) - users of a portal have a checkbox at an entrance (in login block).
If they will put this flag at an entrance - they will overlook about input any login or the password for 100 days.
Thus at each new visiting a site this term is prolonged automatically (for 100 days as I say).

The password is stored as the control sum. The name is stored as ID.

If somebody will prompt any unique variable automatically generated at installation of a XOOPS (like a PID in Apache) - that I shall make 100% secure system.

PS. A prolongation of length of sessions is not required any hack as far as I know. But sessions are necessary for another, and it is very bad idea about prolongation of session.

also, does one have to "uninstall' one of the hacks before "installing" the other? I have been trying so many things to get this done that I dont even know how many files I modified...

Perfect!

Thanks, Chapi! As usual, you da man!

(BTW, nice job on the TinyContent update. Worked very smoothly for me.)

Re: Limiting anonymous users' search ability

Alternatively, can I just remove the newbb module from the list of modules than can be searched by anyone?

This project has to wrap in two days; it's a local school district that's the client and their budget ends on June 27, so I have to have it done and invoiced and they have to get the check cut by the 26th.

Thanks, guys! (And gals!)

Problem 1) / at the top fo the page

Edit the following file
modules\system\admin\tplsets\main.php

Delete the / before

Problem 2) no "submit" button

To change the templates you have to "clone" them first! After that you can edit the cloned templates. Don't forget to select them in the preferences of your site.

I can't get the template editor to work - there is a "view" button, but no "submit" button anywhere. The template editor looks broken, there is a / at the top of the page and everything looks bigger than it's supposed to.
I don't know where to fix it, so I'm hoping there is somewhere I can edit one single file manually.

What html or php file can I add this to?

Any help would be appreciated very very much.

This hack suffers from the same problem as the original hack in this thread. While it does not expose the login (uname) it exposes the uid and the password.

I'm sure that this feature can be introduced with the 2.0.x branch, though a few config items will have to be added. This will require the admin user to run an update script, of course. But I don't see this as a problem.
