I'm new to XOOPS, have the basic installation up on:

Operating SYS Linux
Kernel version 2.6.9-34.EL
Machine Type i686
Apache version 1.3.36 (Unix)
PHP version 4.4.2
MySQL version 4.1.19-standard

This site was put up for my wife & daughter, which is:

http://www.storerunners.com/

Until I figure out what I need to do the XOOPS is at the following location:

http://www.storerunners.com/xoopscms/

The plan is to have the two of them be able to put up and change content, without feeding me each and every bit of information, but have me in the wings to supply the framework, etc.

Initially they just wanted a few static informational pages, but when got talking about the possibility of their clients keeping shopping lists online and scheduling deliveries, it seemed like this package could fit the bill.

At this point, and after reading a ton of DOC, I can't figure out how to create a simple static type page at say:

http://www.storerunners.com/HTML/

That could be a jumping off place where casual visitors could read about services without making a committment to become a registered user nor be bothered by additional information yet at that point.

I was figuring that the Welcome Page of the site, would click into the /HTML/ portions until they wanted to become a registered user then get to /xoopscms/

Am I on the right track here ?

- Thanks & take care M.D.

Hello M. D.,

You are basically in the ballpark. Would suggest that you use the WF-Channel module for your static pages. You can have the guest to your site be allowed to see those pages and when they join for your services, you can put them in seperate groups, for example, one group that would use your services in your area, and one group for people outside your area. Each group could be given seperate permissions to have access to areas.

Would suggest using a Form module for your clients to send you their requests. There are alot of things you could do with your site.

John,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm not sure what that WF-Channel module is yet, but will search that down 1st.

The thought on different groups is well received.

I've changed the logo & default banner so far.

One click @ a time.

Thanks again - Michael

Michael,

If you need any help, let me know.

Also, look in the templates and find a layout that you like and then modify it (banner, flash, layout, etc.). That way, all you have to do is install the modules you need, modify their internal layouts.

You could have all this done in a week. XOOPS is good!
