I've fixed (I think) my blank page problem, and I'm now the proud owner of a whole new problem!

Warning [Xoops]: Smarty error: unable to read resource: "xoops2-thm_aqua-um/theme.html" in file class/smarty/Smarty.class.php line 1084

Namely this. Is there any way to change the set theme without going into the admin? I can't get into the site at all!

If you honked up the theme (and it seems you just might have ) & it won't let you get to /user.php, you can use phpmyadmin or any MySQL frontend to change the theme back to default.

in yourdbprefix_config table look for an entry where conf_name is theme_set. change the value to Quote:
default
and it will revert you to the default theme so that you can log in again.

Advice:
whenever you are changing a theme you aren't positive will work... leave the admin open in it's own browser and open the homepage in a new browser.. if the new theme is hosed, you can just change it back in your still open admin browser window.

Thank you both. The changing the value on the phpmyadmin thing worked in the end. I tried the other plan too, but just coudln't get into my admin panel.

I did keep the admin panel open while checking my site, but for some reason the changes didn't happen until a few hours after I'd done them! Still, no theme changes for me now!

That could be your 'cache' settings - in your general preferences. When you play with themes you need to turn your cahcing off so you can see what happens right away - if you are not happy with the result you can delet that them or makie it unavailable in your still open admin page. Glad you solved your problme - if you are not sure about caching there's an faq and some posts on it.
