We're considering moving our standalone forum website to Xoops. We've got XOOPS installed in a test directory and have been playing with it, and we've discovered something that our users would surely revolt against.

Is there any way to change the way the text formatting buttons in the forums work? We'd prefer to have it so that when you click a button, it puts the tag in the entry text box (like most other forums I've ever seen). Putting text into that little field to format it and then having to click the "add" button, is really awkward. Our community would complain loudly.

Are there any other options?

I have to agree the XOOPS 'DHTML' editor formatting controls always baffled me. I believe it may be revised for a later version of Xoops.

The Koivi (a.k.a XK_Editor Class) WYSIWYG editor can be used for the NewBB or CBB forum and (according to a post in this thread) it can be configured to display a minimal formatting menubar to restrict formatting controls to just bold, italic etc.

I confess I haven't tried it.
A thread is for life. Not just for Christmas.
