I guess I don't understand the download modules purpose. When you add a new file why can't you browse for it. Why is a URL involved. Is this module intended for uploading files for people to download? Do you have to move the file to your webservers file stucture then provide a URL here? Why not have a config entry in the module that says where the directory is, then be able to browse to the file and the module copies it to that dir and creates the URL automatically when you "add" it?

Am I misunderstanding the use of this module?

Thanks

I added a file, gave the url to it: http://localhost/xoops/html/presentations/file.sxw, put it in /var/www/html/xoops/html/presentations. Went to downloads and the file is there but when I click it Mozilla attempts to display it, which it of course can't, rather than download it. If I "Shift click" I get the file dialog but the file the name is wrong, it shows up as "visit.php" instead of the real file name. I must be doing something terribly wrong...

Thanks

Well, it is called the downloads module, so that must have been a bit of a hint

The 2.1 version of this module (see the posts about the recent beta release) has this upload feature. However, not everyone will want to 'host' the downloadable files on their own server, so providing a link to an external location is a good option.

Thanks, this new module works much more like a downloads module should!
