Well, this is part of my confusion. I don't assume you mean to send both of the unpacked folders 1)modules 2) docs to the XOOPS root? I assume you mean only the contents of /Modules into html/modules/name of mod.

Sorry to be so literal but it's these simple fundamentals that are tripping me.

You don't need the "docs" folder, those are instructions, etc. But you're right about the rest.

Basically, whatever modules are in the "modules" folder on your hard drive should be uploaded directly into the "modules" folder on your web site.

You can do it a couple of ways.

1. Upload the entire "modules" folder to your site's root folder. The files and folders inside of the folder you just uploaded will be added to the modules that are already inside your site's "modules" folder.

2. You can upload the modules in your hard drive's "modules" folder individually into your site's "modules" folder.
