Your current site is based on Frontpage source code. This is mainly static HTML content all of which can be duplicated on a XOOPS platform, Plus you get all the dynamic interactive features that XOOPS offers.

I would forget Front page, its a pain to update and very limited. To use XOOPS only as a backend, or add-on is to missunderstand its full potential and flexibility as a CMS.

Why not build a XOOPS site and see how much existing content you can get into xoops? Then build on the future features you want!

chriswe, I can understand you being cautious about installing modules etc. You've made 3 posts here, so I guess you are somewhat inexperienced with xoops. My advice is always, install a local environment of XOOPS using something like WAMP and experiment with a local version of XOOPS first.

Read presentation to find out more about wamp. Put simply wamp provides a basic but complete webserver on your computer that is the same as your host offers. this allows you to run a complete version of XOOPS (or other webserver scripts)

This will get you used to all kinds of operations and procedures, without fear of messing up a production site.

Xoops protector is IMHO an essential module and ideally should be integrated into every installation.

FIRST OFF: make a backup of your database. Now as will suggested delete the module folder from your files and delete the tables in the database. If you made any group permissions for this module, they will also need changing or deleting. Likewise any blocks. I guess this will not be required as your first sight was a failed admin screen. If it goes 'belly up' reload the backup database and wait for further advice here.

It's also worth posting on www.smartfactory.ca as they may have some further local help for you.

You can use any module in your home page only. The advantage of using modules as opposed to a custom block is that many modules can show dedicated blocks with changing dynamic content related to the modules contents.

BTW. xoops>admin> preferences allows you to set a module for the home page (start page)

Im very much in favor of the edito module, but to be fair to you, you can use other content modules similar to this which are clonable. TidyD and SmartSection are 2 that come to mind, although they do not offer the same feature set as edito.

Whey not try Popup generator

You should be able to position the popup to open in the page centre.

If you dont like popups, then you could try making an iframe in a centre block, then targeting your link content to open in that iframe. Again it has drawbacks, as the content can be viewed outside your site, if a search engine crawls it.

Don't bother with redirects, they are tricky with search engines and a messy way to do things. The issue with changing your site URL in the database should not be a problem, providing you have a decent Text editor

Simply open the previously saved database and do a 'find & Replace' to change your URL No replace this changed version over the old DB.

Dont attempt this in windows notepad as your DB will probably be too large for it to open.

Quote:
I tried adding a custom block which shows but only a red x no pic.

These are easy to solve in Internet explorer. Simply right click on the red X and select image properties. This will give you the path that YOU have set for the image (mozila won't do this...shame) Now check this path with the real path that leads to that image. To test it, enter the path in the browser address bar, it will display the image if correct. Now go and check/change that path in your code to get it to show correctly.

Paths are real important, especially if you are using /../.. etc. (relative paths)

ONE IMPORTANT POINT! If you have made any URLs withhttp://domain.com/sub_folder/etc in a custom block or hacks in templates you MUST edit the database to show the new paths ie:http://domain.com/etc Now save the database and replace this with the existing. If you dont do this these paths will not be correct.
