Arabxoops.com is happy to announce the release of Latest News block module.

This module displays the latest news from the news module (1.56) in a block.

Features:
1. Can set the number of articles to display, using one or more columns.
2. Can choose to display the title, author, date, comments link, and other display settings.
3. Can customize image properties in all articles (i.e. width, height, position, borders).
4. Can customize the number of letters to truncate each news item, without cutting off any words midway.

A very good sollution to show latest news. Could be possible to merge into diferent topics? should be interesting to combine with the powerfull MyTabs module

I have some ideas if it's possible to add it to your new module!!

-possibility to choose the topics that appear in the block. (like mytabs)
- possibility to create another blocks.

nice block, but i having some problem when login as Registered user. below is the error message

latestnews uses $thisstory->prepare2show($filescount);

prepare2show uses news_is_admin_group()

news_is_admin_group expects you are using the news module...

So I supose that error ocurs with the block on a front page right?

Fix?

You can hack news/include/functions.php
replace function ate line 531 for this one:

 function news_is_admin_group()

    global $xoopsUser; 
    $module_handler =& xoops_gethandler('module'); 
    $xoopsModule =& $module_handler->getByDirname('news'); 
    if(is_object($xoopsUser)) {

This way it will allways get the permissions for the news module.

a little hack on the link "More News". This will link to the next news item rather than link to the first page of news modules and show the same news as in the homepage.

in the file /blocks/latestnews.php line 138, replace with this.

here is my fix for it. it has trabis fix in there but doesn't require modifying the news module.

Yes, possible but need to modify news module not latestnews module.

Can draw your idea by photoshop to show it to herve, he may add it to news module ?
