Dear XOOPSers: It's very satisfying for me to give you the first product of our team's collective effort: A visual introduction to XOOPS. As the name implies, this is an image-filled document that presents XOOPS to a new user and introduces its main features through a mostly visual interface. We consider this document a polished draft, and after some comments and suggestions, will consider it an official release. We have made available at this time three different versions of the document: a CHM file, a PDF file and a multi-page HTML document (compressed as RAR and as ZIP File). You can download your favorite here: A visual introduction to XOOPS We welcome your comments. Have fun. Cheers.
Great work. I especially like that chm version. Cool!
Re: First official document is available
That really is superb....great work!
If you are after any constructive suggestions...I'd say.. (a) Push the modularity aspect a bit more early on in the document....you comment over half a page about how modules are easy to install and uninstall, but don't actually show it that well (page 8 and 9 of the PDF).....for a visual guide, show close ups of the actual "install" and "uninstall" butons and process...even something as basic as this would make people really understand how easy it is....and make them impressed. This is what got me with Xoops...not the modularity but the ease to install each module.
(b) when you show other modules later on, you run in to a dilemma...it's great to see all the different site designs, but by including shots of the whole web page, it's sometimes hard to see what the actual module looks like...AgendaX for example....it's hard to determine where on the screen shot the module is. Either that or my eyes are getting worse!
Hope those comments are OK....as I say though, this is superb and I'll be pointing the documents out to a lot of people. Thank you so much for the effort you are all making.
Phil

Congratulations on a job well done.
Re: First official document is available
@ mikhail:
For the moment we only have the English version, though I'm already working in the Spanish one. What do you need to build a Portuguese one? Use any of the formats to create the text strings, mail them to me and I'll create the necessary outputs.
@ all:
Thanks for your comments. As stated, this is a draft. We're still looking for a way to show better and clearer images, and in a future online version (we already have one with the same images) we'll use clickable images so the user can see them full size.
Of course we also welcome all initiatives to translate this into other languages. We want xoopsers from all over the world.
Cheers.

Congradulation hsalazar and all contributors ! This a giant step towards the professional adoption of XOOPS by users.

First official document now in Spanish
Xoopsers:
I'm happy to announce the Spanish version of "A visual introduction to XOOPS" is ready. The relevant page is at:
I'm working on making a french version of this document. You will be warned when it will be finished. (at this time, I've translated nearly 50 per cent of the doc)
Happy xoopsing
Re: First official document is available
I have just created an slightly modified version of this helpfile for general use and distribution. I added a small glossary to the basic functionality of the helpfile itself. I, also, created new online html version of the file in both html and swf formats. You may download the entire aysatems from my site at:
There is no direct access from my site for either of these help files.
Enjoy! ...mark
I'm impressed
I am curently looking for an appropriate system for our corporate intranet site. After reading "A Visual intro to XOOPS" - I'm convinced that XOOPS is likely to be a top contender (if not the only contender).
The doc is so clearly written that I have given it to one of the non-technical (very non technical) stakeholders to review.
Thanks again and congratulations on a job very well done!

Sure, this is OPEN SOURCE.

Thanks for your comments.
is so easy to say and repeat "Congratulations" & "Good job", but hard to work a lot with opensource like you (and without respect with credits from others)
