WFDownloads Local file?

This may seem like a silly question.... but in WFDownloads when I add a file, I have the option of putting a remote URL in (which is what i am currently doing even though the files are hosted on my site) But how does the local file work...what path do i put in there, ive tried several things but i really dont know. Could anyone help me out?

I think it is the physical path to your file (and not an URL) as eg /home/youraccount/dir/file.fil
In this manner you can having the files to download outside the webroot.

Well that's what I thought too, but i tried that and then it just downloads a text file and replaces all the forward slashes with underscores in the filename when i actually click to download the file. I think there's something I'm missing with regards to how to use it.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you couldn't use slashes in file names as a server will mis-interpret them as directory markers...

What I meant was that the slashes in the directory path I use in local file (NOT IN the filename) get turned into underscores for some reason when i click the download button when trying to use a local link.
