Trying to install Forums CBB 4 RC

When I try to do this, it tells me

Unable to install newbb. Error(s):
Module newbb already exists.

I tried to deactivate the forum module and got the same result.

Naturally I wish to update this and not lose all the old forum information.

TIA,
Tim

CBB 4 is not stable yet. Some people have succeeded, but many more have failed.
See the thread devoted to CBB 4.0RC problems here.

Is 3 ok?

Since upgrading to 2.3.2b I have had nothing but trouble and I wanted to get the latest versions of the modules, hoping that they have solved any problems that the new XOOPS version have brought to light.

Thanks,
Tim

I just tried 3 and it said the same thing, i.e. that newbb already exists.

I could probably use some installation instructions here, particularly after reading that some ppl have lost all of their forum content.

That would be very bad.

Thanks,
Tim

What does it say in the readme?

Re: Trying to install Forums CBB 4 RC

"Both "Frameworks" and "xoopseditor" packages are required by this module.
Plz download from:

Frameworks:
https://xoops.org.cn/uploads/mydownloads/xoops/xoops-frameworks-art.zip
orhttp://dev.xoops.org/modules/xfmod/project/showfiles.php?group_id=1357

xoopseditor:
https://xoops.org.cn/uploads/mydownloads/xoops/xoops-class-xoopseditor.zip
orhttp://dev.xoops.org/modules/xfmod/project/showfiles.php?group_id=1155"

Not terribly useful for sorting out why it won't install...

Re: Trying to install Forums CBB 4 RC

ok, now before you do this, make a back up! You have been warned!

make sure that the frameworks and xoopseditor are installed and up to date.

delete the module (your old newbb module) using an ftp or file manager application.

upload the new version of CBB (titled newbb as was the old one) using same ftp app.

goto admin>system>modules and click the update button next to newbb

cross your fingers and see if the forums are still working.

(maybe better to wait, actually, until someone else says this is ok. It's just what I'd do in your situation)

Yes, I think I might wait.

There is a fair volume of posts there - I really don't wish to lose them.

Anyone know how to do this safely?

By doing it on a local copy of your site with XAMPP or waiting to the CBB 4.0 is released.

I could install XAMPP etc, but how would that solve the diagnostic that indicated that Newbb is already installed?
