I'm very new to Xoops--just 3 days. I've I've installed version 2.0.16 and have everything running. But I have some questions about modules and templates.

In chapter 4 of the Visual Introduction documentation it says that XOOPS currently shuips with a number of modules developed and maintained by the SOOPS Module Development team. Then then it lists the present official modules: News, NewBB, Polls, Web Links, Downloads, etc.

But when I log into my XOOPS site as administrator, the only module I have is the System module. The documentation seems to indicate that I should see these other modules listed that I can install. But I don't see them? Also, when I go to the default template set, the only Template that shows is the System Template?

Have I done something wrong? Where do I get the other "official" modules? Do I now have to download them separately? I did see in the release notes of 2.0.16 this statement: "Modules
The packages do not contain any module apart from the system one. You are invited to browse the XOOPS modules repository to get some."

I guess right now I'm a little confused between what I read in the documentation and what I'm finding in my installation and I don't want to jump forward and mess something up.

Any guidance/direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

You didn't do anything wrong.... as I understand it, all the old "included" modules were removed from the install.

You are correct in that you would only have a system module after a clean install.

You need to hunt down and get the modules that you want to use.

You can read Skenow's "Starting a new XOOPS site" that has very good information for beginning.

Make sure that you search for the newest modules and don't just look in the Module Repository.

You might like to look for:

News is currently at v1.53
newbb = cbb = 3.08 (you'll need Frameworks and xoopseditors too)
extcal is at v 2.0.4
protector is at v 3.01a (last time I looked - essential module)
SmartSection is at 2.13

Others will, I'm sure, point you in the direction of other modules.
