SMTP & Perl are not things XOOPS deals with, so it seems that something else is causing this. Make sure your host tells you what exactly is causing this!

deinitely not XOOPS then as herko says, XOOPS doesn't use perl at all..

it may use smtp if you have set it up to use smtp otherwise it uses phpmail, or if you have a mailing list manager with a lot of subscribers?? in which case if you are using mailing lists and you have more than a couple of thousand subscribers then yes, ideally you do not want to be on shared hosting plans.

what does your host class as a lot of emails?

hell 1 of my sites sends around 70,000 emails a week (due to mailing lists mainly)

I had a ISP all over me a couple of times, they claimed my system was sending numerous emails and that I needed to fix the problem. Blah blah blah...
I did everything, scanned for viruses, malware, adware, and found nothing. I then used their suggested scan program and found nothing.
The second time they came at me, I told them perhaps they needed to check their own $#@!&^( system for the problem because mine was behind a firewall, virus protection, scanned cleaned etc.

Never heard from them again, I guess they found their(their) problem!
