shoutbox stops me logging in

I installed the newest shoutbox module, and the block. then logged out. Afterwards i couldn't log back in, and the shoutbox module block (whilst I was logged out) contained the front page of my weblog with wordpress...very odd...I got back in using recovery and disabled it which is a pity.

why would this happen

I had the same problem,it was a cookies issue on my browser(my bad),try setting to allow site on your browser,should work then..
Another thing was the user settings in the shout box module I had forgot to check them one time after installing again and the site displayed in the shout box area,but I think it could be more a cookies thing...

From what i could make out the shoutbox module displayed the front page of your site only when you aren't signed in to your site and you have the shoutbox set to not allow messages from anonamous users

yes thats right, I was logged out and the shoutbox was set for no anonymous posts

don't understand the post about the cookies...should I delete all my cookies?

the cookies would explain the problem with logging in so it is worth checking your firewall and browser to make sure you havent got cookies blocked if you are having trouble logging in

I deleted all the cookies and set to accept any cookie rather than just from the present site as I had it set before.

However I can login perfectly when the shoutbox block is turned off.

It might be easier just to get a hotscripts php shoutbox and stick it in a custom block.

i had the same problem when i installed shout box but i found in the end it was my firewall blocking the cookies so i changed the settings on that and it worked fine

well at present I just have a software fw running, what port do i need to open or forward to make it work, and if that is the case surely anyone accessing it is going to have the same problem. What cookie does shoutbox create?

on my system i am running zone alarm securtiy suite so i simply reduced the strictness of the cookie filter as far as i know there isnt a need to forward anyt ports to allow shout box to work

this doesn't really apply to me, I am on a mac and the firewall on OS 10 is pretty basic, no other aspect of it is not working.

I have excluded shoutbox from the simplified URL hack and that seems to allow me to login, but on log out the block still shows my webpage

UPDATE: sussed it....changed the permissions and took shoutbox out of simplified URL, sorted it, thanks for help and advice
