I am putting together a site for karaoke bars. People who want to sing on a certain night would check the event calendar and locate a bar to sing at.

I was using piCal for the event calendar, but I want to set up a "map link" to a hotlink of a map to the venue, and other information about the joint.

I am no good at hacking or writing a module, so I need something pretty simple.

Something where the venue could be a page of its own, maybe? And linked in piCal?

Any ideas?

You could possibly try adding xdirectory to your site. It creates a Yellow Pages-like directory on your site, with links to Yahoo maps.

I'd suggest adding the different venues to xdirectory, and then whenever a date is added to piCal, link it to the venue's entry in xdirectory.

OK...

so next silly question is how do I put a link in piCal to the entry in X Directory?

Thanks

That's something you'd have to do manually. You just need to know the url of the venue's link in your xdirectory. Hopefully, it will already be there. If not,

1. add the venue to your directory.

2. once it's in there, click on it's title to view it as a single entry.

3. Copy the url from your web browsers address bar

4. Create the entry in your calendar and paste the url you just copied into the entry. You might write something like: "Click here for directions."

Also, if the list of bars isn't too long, you might consider using one of xdirectory's blocks to display all of the venues in the left or right column, or in a block above or below the calendar. You can rename the block to anything you want.

Just a thought...

well, now we have issues...

I have uploaded the XDirectory module but it won't let me install it. In the Modules window, it says

"Module File for Not Found!"

and will not let me install the module.

What am I doing wrong? Oh, and you can email me for better response time at davedorm@gmail.com or on the IM services as well... AIM: davedorm67, ICQ: 343981

Thanks for your help.

I don't know if you installed the module or the folder that it came in. I e-mailed you the module. Let me know if it works.
