Hello XOOPS experts,

I got XOOPS installed on a test site so I could get my feet wet before working on the actual install where I need the app running.

First, I'm completely unfamiliar with XOOPS and with php in general. While I've used canned scripts before, such as osCommerce, phpNuke, phpBB2, and similar apps, and have hacked several to get them to work under the strict environments my hosting service has set up (suexec, php runs as cgi, etc.), I need some genuine help getting XOOPS or some script (perl, php, python, c++, or...no .asp or .js) to work delivering a specific kind of information to site visitors when they fill out or, preferably, pick the necessary parameters.

Can XOOPS do it? If so, how? Can you point me to a hack or module or tutorial?

I was pointed here by someone at SourceForge. They said, try Xoops, this after trying phpCodeGenie and several other apps I found. Zope was tried which looked to be The Answer, but the python on the hosting service isn't up to its needs, so scratch that one.

So, is there a way? I looked at that DAOclass generator module, and, except for the fact that it works in an Windows environment, it looks like the thing.

I did several searches on the site, but came up with nothing. Searches in this forum proved of little help, so I'm chancing getting chewed out or laughed out for my ignorance, and posting here.

Thanks for any response,

CC

By the way, if there is anything I can do to help the individual or individuals who helps me, just ask. Graphics, ranking help, or anything else me or my team can offer, limited as that might be.

In most commmon form - yes, XOOPS can do it (if "deliver" is "find and show results"). Final choice depends from type of information, which you want to have and show... Maybe, you have any type of example form and result page?
And in any case (if existing modules can't perform needed tasks) you can ask to develop special module for your needs

First, thank you for responding. I am extremely grateful.

To respond, the type of information to be delivered in dependent upon a big tree of variables that must be sorted through by identifying manufacturer, product line, model and sub-model, which leads to serial number range. From serial number range, the specific subassembly and an exploded view of that subassembly must be delivered so that the individual can identify the exact part they need.

The relational database is comprised of 22 tables/155MB with multiple foreign keys and interconnected relationships that deliver different patterns and sorts and images.

I've been working my way through the modules list, but the details evade my comprehension on whether or not "this" will work. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I have downloaded several and unzipped them (just looking at BlueMoon phpESP mod now) but I hesitate to just arbitrarily install and try because the first one I did that with shut everyone's sites down for a half an hour last nite because the firewall on the MySQL server that feeds the database kicked in with some objection to something in it. (That was probably just a fluke with that one module, but it makes me a little leery of just uploading and "trying it."

Thank you again for responding,

CC

Well, having looked at the mods, and tried a bunch, I'm now in the API. *sigh*
