In this month's XOOPS newsletter, "Site of the Month":

https://xoops.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=1524

Novell's XOOPS site is featured:

http://forge.novell.com/

This is a great example of a custom registration page. Are there any XOOPS hacks to do something along those lines?

look on the link carefully

https://secure-www.novell.com/selfreg/jsp/createAccount.jsp?target=http%3A//forge.novell.com/modules/news/index.php

They are using some sort of jsp to register account for XOOPS where in they have all that modified contents.

No doubt the user registartion method at XOOPS doesnt follow all this formalities of filling up so many cells. But even i would like to see similar sort of registration form.

I did modified the registration forum and rest of the things for custom need base. but the big issue is that with every XOOPS version upgradation i have to do those changes once again.

why don't u contact the author of the novell site and ask them exactly how they did it?

regardless of the jsp involvement in it, the way they do it is via a completely different form than used on XOOPS and then the $POST data is passed to the XOOPS db i presume.. they may give u the scripts to do it if u ask them nice..

I assume that's correct, it integrates into a database used by xoops, and asking for that specific script might be an option for some folks, but not me - the scripting is in .jsp, and ultimately, .asp, and the linux/apache server I'm on won't run that code. I'm looking instead for someone who has done something similar that works with XOOPS in php.

Novell has a central registration and uses eDirectory to authenticate it's members. Novell Forge authenticates via LDAP on eDir, hence the 'custom' registration page. Basically, they have an external registration page and authentocate to another user database then XOOPS' native one.

Ah, I see. Thanks again, Herko...looks like I'm back to deciding whether to build my own custom registration page from scratch, or to edit the existing XOOPS log-in. Editing the registration section of XOOPS seems to be a popular topic in these forums. The best post I've run across here on that topic seems to be this:
