I got an email with the subject, XOOPS hosting today with the following email:

Are you still after XOOPS hosting in the UK? If so, If your company is a
interesting or worthy cause or charity we will provide it free of charge in
return for links...

One word: SPAM

Someone had harvested your email address from this site.

This is just spam. Could be from them, looks like it. It's a real mail made by someone I can tell that much. Someone harvested your email address from somwhere, could be here, could be another site running XOOPS that your associated with, or anywhere in fact.

Bottom line is someone put two and two together figured you use XOOPS and sent you an email.

Ignore it, unless you made a post regarding hosting solutions and someone here just decided to email you and see if your interested in the their hosting. The circumstances are endless. Could you have done something to promt some one on the forums to shoot you an email. Looks like someone trying to get in touch with you personally. Look at athe site and determine if you should reply or not, or use a contact form on their site.

I wouldn't answer it otherwise.

I can pretty much rule out that this should be an official mail from official XOOPS people.

Most likely it is Fluent (judging from the email address in your pasting) who sent it.

Was it masked as a @xoops.org email address?
Have you enquired on the forums for hosting? If so, then it may just be a friendly (however commercial) offer.

Which would be odd not mentioning he is in webhosting when he suggested this

Hmm This sounds interesting, I'd be interested in helping set up some kind of criteria for what a good webhost should provide. Perhaps we could setup a little group to work on this?
Having good webhosts for XOOPS users will, I'm sure, help the community and product develop faster and more efficiently...
How would one do this within the current XOOPS community structure?
Jonathan

Although i donĀ“t have a problem with it i think it would be worth mentioning in that regard if he is in webhosting himself. (no offense)
