Hello Folks,

I am creating an xhtml & Css compliant tabless layout for Xoops. For a preview of the early stages, you can see it athttp://envk.com/x/

I need to change the width of some of the modules and then I plan to experiment with position:absolute and a fluid layout.

Cheers
Eddie

Check back from time to time for a tutorial on the changes from tables to no tables - including source code.

Hi Eddie,

Looking good . Nice and light code. However there seems to be a lot of images which is bumping up you http requests a bit. It is early days yet though

There's always the dilemma of ultra-light code vs. pizzazz.

No matter what, there is no way to satisfy everyone. I like light but personally just can't give up on graphics. I guess tables are for me...

I like what you've done and will be interested in following what you learn.

I'm impreseed with what you're doing and look forward to seeing how this develops. If I found a dependable theme that worked well without tables, I believe I would switch to that as my default. I'd very much like to pear down the length of time it takes to load pages since most of our visitors are older and even elderly, and are using modems (as opposed to dsl or cable). Anyway, it's neat to see what you're doing...

Hi,

there are a few approaches to lightweight themes / css in XOOPS - see the following:
https://xoops.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=1457
and Michael Hokamp's postings under:
https://xoops.org/userinfo.php?uid=14995

Keep up the good work,

Alan

nice to see this topic growing !
We are actually working on a page to gather css, xhtml and other stuff to make this playable ... Of course, we are actually writing and looking for content. All people interested in this topic are invited to take part and write news, articles and tutorials..

EnVKcom:

Maybe this link will assist in designing a better [read: xhtml & Css compliant] template. Based on css gives you a 3 colom/header/footer template and its very fast.

http://www.pixy.cz/blogg/clanky/css-3col-layout/

Then the next step would be to make modules and block tableless...
