Do new themes apply to all modules?

I'm just starting my first XOOPS site and would like to use a new theme. I'm beginning to understand the process but before I spend a lot of time tweaking I'm wondering... will the new themes apply to all modules, including any I may install in the future or does each module have its own theme?

Any theme you use will be applied to any module you install.

Thanks! And I assume the most visible theme designers in these forums typically provide the best packages with docs?

Not necessarily. Not all theme designers make publish their themes on the XOOPS site, which is a bit of a shame really. Some of the best themes I've seen have been customised and not realeased to the public. Some of my favorite designs are from 7dana, fort chaos, and ackbarr.

Once in a while, but in most cases it's just upload and apply to see how it looks.

What I do for theme testing is make the theme block visible to Admin/webmaster group only. Apply my changes localy, upload, test, test, test, then when satisfied, I apply the template as default and thats that if you will.

I think I understand the difference between themes and templates. Themes are the appearance and templates are the layout, yes? If so, do most theme packages include templates or do they come separately?

Yeah, kinda.

The template side just lets you customize the look that much more.

Dont know how to explain it specifically without geeking out

A good example of templates would be the look at my site and see how the news (the actual news blocks in center)is arranged. That was done from the template side.
