I have noticed that for each registered user logged into my site, there is an anonymous user with the same IP logged in as well. Is this a bug or possible a server/host update issue?

No this isn't a bug or a sercer issue. This is because every user that needs to log in, is an anonymous user. That starts a session, which lastst for the duration you have set in your site's general prefernces. Default for 15 minutes. This means that for a little less then 15 minutes, you have two users logged in with the same IP address.
