Hi!

I wonder if it is possible to make, basically with the login block, a sort of login panel (a bit like Windows XP one or Mac OS X one) on a first (and decorated) page:
- picture (optional);

The user could scroll the logins, click on it and enter the password. Then the user could get into the website.

It would be a bit more 'visual' and friendly.

What do you think about it? If I want to do it, how should I do this?

Thanks in advance for your opinion and your help,
and best regards,

Don.

Like WinXP? So every user has its own login fields? With over 12000 users this page would be a little long here at xoops.org

You are correct!

But for minor websites like mine (a club with a big maximum of 80-90 members), it could be possible.

A useful additional tool (for a huge number of users) would be a scrollbar with:
- A-C
- D-F
- G-I
- etc

or for bigger websites:
- Ab-Al
- Am-Az
- etc

The logins could automatically appear by 10 to 10.

No?

Cheers

Don.

I guess the easiest way to do that would be building a module based on "Members", making sure it lists everybody for anyone that wants to login (so you'd get the avatars too). You'd have to change the links of the usernames so that when someone clicks his/her username he/she is redirected to the login form having the "username" field filled accordingly.
But as chapi said, imagine that a website can grow quickly and weight the benefits of such a module against the time and energy to create and maintain.
No matter what you choose, I wish you good luck

Or, how could we get the login panel (uname and pword) into a gateway html page? Would that be possible?

Sorry, Wingz, I don't understand what you mean.

Could you detail a little bit more your idea, please?

Thx!

Don.

You could start by using the 'site closed' option of your site (you can find it under general settings in the preferences menu of the system admin). Modify the system_siteclosed.html template in the system admin -> templates manager, and you've got a nice login screen

Herko you're a legend! Thanks for that tip - eaxactly what I wanted. I had shunted past that option, not having the time to explore it - be great if someone wrote a user manual for this incredible piece of work. Thanks again!
