On my site I have restricted the downloadpage (module) for anonomous visitors and only registered users can reach it.

But what prevents anyone from accessing the files by adressing them directly - like http://myserver/files/file.exe ?

I want to protect the files-folder from anyone not logged in as a registered user. Can this be done?

(sorry about my poor english - in my own language I make a lot more sence ;)

Do a search on Google for how to protect folders/directories using the .htaccess file. That is a very secure way of protecting certain folders.

Or, you can just put a simple empty index.html file in the folder, which means that browsers will see only a blank page and no directory listing when they view the directory

Directory Listing is already denied in .htaccess
what i was looking for was a way that prevent users that are not logged on in my XOOPS-site, from downloading files (if they should happend to know the filename, guess it or somehow leech it).

could I use Basic Authentication and add username and password to the url that links to the files?
