No further response, well, then i'll have to bump up this 'little' topic! ;)

I deinstalled the troubled NewBB 2 Beta 2 module and installed newbb 1 instead in hope that everything will work fine now.

But i am getting an error about just reuploaded admin file inside the newbb 1 module folder. It's just stupid.

I am regretably loosing interest in XOOPS already considering another systems such as Drupal (if integrates phpbb) or some of other nukes. XOOPS i excellent in everything except it doesn't offers clean urls and some other 'tiny things' and if this hadn't happen i'd be going with it for long probably. This problem with updating modules i ran into may not seem big, but for the site i am planning to start it is untolerable to have modules completely uninstalled and then installed whenever i need to put up a new version, it become a major issue.

I am sad about it, and if anybody can explain the problem to me, explain why would something like that happen and convience me to stay with xoops, i'll be glad if it'll remove this issue out of the game.

I'm afraid that it is hard to solve as I have never seen anything like that.
I feel terribly sorry for you that you are undergoing these problems, but I simply cannot suggest a solution because I also do not understand why it's happening.

I understand Mithrandir. And i'd like to say i am not mad at XOOPS community about this since it really seems to be a great community. I don't know why is this happening to me, it may be a new bug inside XOOPS or the troubled modules. I may reinstall the whole system and then try updating the same modules again to see if the problem will occure again. I'll inform you about that if i do that.
You'd understand if i move to another portal system because of this because i just have to be sure everything will work optimaly and therefore i can't use the system that showed such weeknesses in not unimportant area (updating modules) in the first week of testing it.
If i move to another system, i'll still be ready to recommend XOOPS to everyone in my future and other communities when they'd search for a community portal system.

i've seen a similar problem before, and it turned out that my XOOPS installation had corrupted files. i re-uploaded the whole install, and it worked dandy


i didn't have this problem with 2.0.6, but upgrading a site to 2.0.7 (and i guess a bad transfer) resulted in that problem.


also, the newbb2 module is VERY buggy, i would suggest avoiding it for now, until it leaves beta stage. we've been waiting for an update for about a month or more now, but development seems to be halted (or at least, the dev is very busy, like usual, and just hasn't had time to update)

i would recommend sticking with newbb 1, or the phpbb module fromhttp://www.bbpixel.com


btw, the errors that you're experiencing aren't typical of xoops, just bad transfers. i hope you're able to straighten things out

I am going to reupload the whole xoops, i am now deleting the old installation to start from scratch.

I would to say those 'errors' aren't typical, but i wonder how come that the XOOPS files get corrupted by an installation so easily, that would somehow mean that every time i want to upgrade to a new version i might expect some problems. If that's so, i believ it wouldn't be a bad idea for developers to look a bit into it and find a way of fixing the problem or something.
Anyway, if the second install i am about to make goes smooth and i am able to update all modules i need to update without ANY problems, i may go with XOOPS afterall.

like i said, it's likely corrupted through ftp transfer, over which the devs have no control

Yeah, that yould be the logical explanation especialy when transfers go through 56k modem connection.
By the way, i use FileZilla FTP for ma transfers..what do you think of it? Is it possible that it doesn't handles transfers very well? Any recommendations for another FTP if this one isn't good enough?

The problem seems to be solved!

I reuploaded, reinstalled the whole thing more carefuly as i said and then i updated news module 1.1 to 1.2 without problems. Also downloaded and installed a couple of 7dana themes and finaly put 7dana jane theme as default for the site changing only logo for now.
I may change more in a theme (colors and stuff), but then i really love the looks this way. What do you think, would it be ok to leave it as it is. I ask that because i heard people say that they don't appreciate sites with complete themes made by others and appreciate more those sites that do it themselves..
And one more thingy, just below the headline, there is register now link that says: 'Register now on mysite.com!' I want to change that 'mysite.com' to 'libervis.com' and i did it inside the theme.htm file, uploaded it and it still doesn't show libervis.com showing instead mysite.com.
It looks unprofessional to have it be 'mysite.com' on libervis.com.

i'm surprised they didn't change that to the sitename variable, to be dynamic... ah well


anyways, goto XOOPS main preferences, make sure that the option to regenerate template html files is enabled. disable it once you're done editing the theme.
