i did not mention permissions as i assumed you were able to upload jpgs, but not gifs. is that not correct?

hmmm yeah i think ur right tj.. no harm in checkin tho, but yeah if jpgs upload ok then the folders must be writable..

another possibility is the versions on netpbm..

i know with xoopsgallery it didn't work when using netpbm v10 files, but did when using v9..

when i use xcgal the netpbm version i used with that was v10.18 and it worked ok

it could be the same in this case.. if you require i can zip up the v9 files and also v10.18 files and give u a link to download them.. it's woth a try anyway..

yes monty you are right, i just read a post where someones permissions mysteriously changed.

good idea to try v10.18.

Just curious on the installation of this newer version as my freind does have version 10.18 of netpbm???

yeah i have those files (version 10.18) too, but i have never uploaded and tried them out.
