I have managed to install XCG 1.1 in my XOOPS 2.06. I'll call it a partical success coz though i can upload pix via ftp, i can't upload pictures direct to XCG - all i get is blank page.

the albums directory (and directories below it) have 777 permissions already.

what am i doing wrong?

I'm using XcGallery & XOOPS 2.0.6 without a problem on my www.brashquido.org site. What version of PHP and MySQL are you running? Try turning on PHP debug in your system admin panel and see what it comes up with.

What image package are you using? Imagmagik, netpbm, GD 1.0, or GD 2.0?

You may need to fudge around with different ones before you get your gallery to work properly.

I use the following versions:
PHP Version 4.3.3
Mysql Version 4.0.18-standard

For the image package, i use
Netpbm

on a different subdomain, i run a stand-alone Coppermine which works fine.

I'm using 2.0.6 with xcGallery 1.1 and have it set for GD 2.0. I'd give that a try since GD is native to php now. Should work without a hitch. If not, i'd deactivate the module, uninstall it, remove it from your site via ftp and completely reinstall... Nothing like that fresh clean smell of a brand new module!!

Can you rank the following from best to worst? netpbm, GD 1.0, or GD 2.0 (assuming all of them are available in your server)

Best to worst (Purely subjective)

Imagemagick - goes with a standard install of Linux, so it should be supported on most reliable systems. For some reason it doesn't always work though.

GD 2.0 - Not as many options like image edit, rotate etc. Most hosts have it.

GD 1.0 - Just an older version, works, mature, virtually everywhere.

netpbm - Experimental, most hosts do not have this, have to install yourself (It is the best, but not fullt supported and still cumbersome)

short of reinstalling xcg 1.1 again (which i'm holding off for now), i still experience the same problem - i cant upload pictures direct to XCG.

after clicking on "upload picture", i go to the upload page which doesn't display correctly ( a blank page actually. and it takes an abnormally long time to load), and i would have to refresh the page just to view it correctly.

i already enabled the PHP debugging. But i can't find errors in my error log.

I finally found out that it's an issue with my browser - Opera v7.21.

It's working fine with K-Meleon 0.8.2 and IE6.

Thanks for all the inputs guys. :)
