Hello,

I can't seem to access the control panel. I keep getting this message :

Sorry, you don't have the permission to access this area

I installed XOOPS into :

http://mytestsite.com/xoops/ . That's the URL to access the my site's main page.


I have already logged in as an admin. The I try to access the admin module by going to both:

http://mytestsite.com/xoops/modules/system/admin.php

or

http://mytestsite.com/xoops/admin.php

With both these URLs I get the message above.


Details of my installation
---------------------------
Windows XP Pro
Apache 2.0
PHP 4.3.4
MySQL 4.0.1


Can someo0ne please help me?

PS: I think the install guide and user guide tells us to access the control panel. But I can't seem to find any information there on how to access the control panel at all

You access admin by logging in as a normal user with your admin login and then the administration link appears on the user menu to the left

Or

http://www.yoursite.com/user.php (login with your admin login)

Then go to http://www.yoursite.com/admin.php (you won't get the no permissions message this time)

but that's the problem i just get a login message then redirected to the main page. but i don't see any admin link on the navigation bar. just a link to "home" on the main menu bar.

there doesn't seem to be any administration link.

Any thoughts?

do you have a firewall? If so you will need to add your XOOPS to the trusted sites list.

firewall? There is no firewall. I am installing it within my company network for testing purposes.

The box is a Win XP machine.

When I log in as admin I get a message thanking me for logging in, just as I do when I log in to the xoops.org website. It redirects me to the main page. And I don't see any link

Yes Firewall?

It is firewall or security apps that normally cause this to happen

If you are succesfully logged in as admin try typing this in your browser

http://www.yoursite.com/admin.php

If no success then something else is kicking you out and will need to explore further, are cookies enabled on your browser?

A full description of your server setup would also help

Cookies are enabled. I say again, there is no firewall because it is installed within an intranet. I am making the connections from the same Win XP box I installed XOOPS and from other PCs within the network. Our company network has only one segment, so I'm not passing through any routers along the way.

After I carried out your suggestion i.e. loggin in as root and then typing http://www.mysite.com/admin.php I get this message:

You don't have the right to access this area

and then it redirects me to the main page again.

always worth doubling checking your folder permissions

cache" folder (CHMOD 777)
"template_c" folder (CHMOD 777)
"uploads" folder (CHOD 777)


Manually Debugging from the XOOPS database

If you can't access your site admin, you may need access to your mySQL database using the phpadmin tool to connect your XOOPS database. The table we need to find is called "xoops_config". Select this table and then click on "browse". In this table there is a field named conf_name and one of the rows is called "debug_mode". Change the number of the "conf_value" to"1". (for phpdebug)

Debug choices available:
0= Off?
1= PHP Debug (normally this one for functional faults and blank pages)
2= MySQL/Blocks Debug
3= Smarty Templates Debug
