I had ask a question earlier and about where to put avatars and how to select on for a profile! Got little response with that earlier question. Have checked more and question has changed.

I did go to Admin CP ---> Avatars......
I did install one avatar. I now can view this avatar for public use.

Question is ---> Do I have to process all of my avatars one at a time via this method?

Is there a way to upload a file and point to that file?

Answer is still the same.
FTP them into the correct directory.
I just put them all in a folder and send them at once.

Forgive my ignorance, but what directory is that? I've tried to do this and failed!

Sorry for being a Newbie.

Trying to figure out the same thing, and is there a way to categorize them in groups? Need help here.

As far as I know there is not currently any way to catagorize avatars into groups.

Due to the way that XOOPS handles them (it renames them as you upload them from the image manager) you must use the admin options to upload them.

I have looked at hacking the avatar system on my site, but have found the easiest way is to simply create html pages with tables of avatars and the path for my users to "upload" their own.

I have seen similar posts but there is no such directory? Or at least no one knows what the directory is. I personally think that the avatars are stored in the database and cant be bulk imported easily.

The user avatars are stored in the uploads directory. By default, they have names like cavt406df0d4e1e28.jpg. I think "cavt" stands for "custom avatar". The alphanumeric suffix is constructed to avoid name collisions.

If you were uploading avatars manually, you wouldn't necessarily have to use that filename syntax. You would just have to ensure that the avatar's filename is stored correctly in the database.
