sendmail is a unix/linux program...

so it is highly likely that it won't be installed on a windows 2003 machine..

i maybe mistaken, but there is a windows version now available, as for configuring it i can't say as i don't use it..

http://www.indigostar.com/sendmail.htm

it used to be called indigomail, but is now called sendmail..

sendmail is a server installed package

i haven't found a host yet that uses linux that doesn't have sendmail installed anyway.. i dunno about windows servers as i don't use those.

there are plenty of packages out there that offer smtp engines etc, but your server host may block those ports it uses and make you use their smtp.. either way, windows or linux, your host should have some kind of mail server..

phpmail is another option.. just search on google if that's what you require..

Xoops has an option for SMTP and SMTPAuth. I can't figure out how to use that or find any information about it. Because it looks like it can connect to an SMTP server itself. But it doesn't give the option to choose the port for the SMTP. What's with that?

PS> Thanks for the above help.

Hi Dmackeybog,

I'm very curious as to why you have choosen to use Apache and Sendmail on a Windows 2003 system instead of using Microsofts own IIS web and SMTP services? I could perhaps understand it a bit better on a Windows NT/2000 box as their implementations of IIS weren't the most secure web servers around, but IIS 6 that is included with the Windows 2003 Sever series is a really great webserver.

Anyway, your choice, just one I find *interesting* considering your choice of operating system. As for the XOOPS SMTP options, there used to be an SMTPAuth bug some time ago, but I thought it had been fixed. When comunicating with the SMTP server it will be communicating on TCP port 25 which is standard for SMTP.
