I installed the software to my hosted server.

Copied the contents form the HTML folder to my hosted site's Root directory.

used my web browser to go to my site address.
i got the install menus no problem.
Ran throught the whole set up all the way to admin account information.

i entered the same user name and password as used for y administration login on my site.

after this installation was complete and my main web page loaded with the XOOPS main page login.

i logged in to the web site using the admin account name and password and i get the same login page again and no administration option.

am i missing something?

If you have your Software Firewall on, do a search using "Norton Firewall Login" as keywords.

It has something to do with making XOOPS an "allowed site" in your software firewall.

Make sure you have the following requirements to run Xoops.
- A web (www) server (Apache, IIS, Roxen, etc)
- PHP 4.1.0 and higher (4.3.1 or higher for IIS)
- MySQL Database 3.23.XX or 4.X.XX

And
TroubleshootingLoginProblems
may help you out.

wow, look at the number of stars of the people in this thread

One other thing you might want to double check: when the 'logging you in for the first time' screen is shown and you're thrown back to the login screen, the system can't write the admin_menu.php file to the server. This probably means that the cache/ folder isn't writable. Make sure it is (on a Linux machine it need to be set to CHMOD 777).

I hope this helps.

I suspected that it was php 4.0.6 that caused the problem. It seems that there are still a plenty of web hosters using 4.0.6.

Unfortunately, there is no other way to make it work. You can either convince you hoster to upgrade or find another hosting company.

It does make you wonder if the hosting company is so afraid to upgrade. It is after all a simply process.
