I'v installed XOOPS on RH9, no problems. I'm now trying it on Debian unstable. I have

php4, 4.3.4
php4-mysql, 4.3.4
mysql-common 4.0.18
mysql-server 4.0.18
mysql client 4.0.18
apache2-common 2.0.49
apache2-mpm-pr 2.0.49

The installation goes fine through the following screens:

Checking file and directory permissions...
General configuration...
Confirming the submitted data...
Saving configuration data...
Check path & URL...
Confirm database settings... Then, When pressing "Next"

Now I get a blank browser, no errors in MySQL or apache. The database does not get created. Is MySQL 3.23 required or is 4.0.18 OK to use? I tried 2.23.58 also. same results...

I've installed on several other non-debian machines just fine. Any recomendations on how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks

Doug P

Hi Doug,

MySQL 4.0.18 is certainly ok to use, as I'm runing XOOPS with it without problems.

However, I had the same issue as yours a few days ago on a mandrake box, it was because I forgot to add MySQL extension to php. After I installed php-mysql, everythong went on fine. But if you already have php-mysql loaded, I can't see where the problem is...

How would I test that php is accessing MySQL properly.

I have php4-mysql installed but how do I know its really working? Are there any config files I need to alter? Does anything need to be changed in /etc/mysql/my.cnf or /etc/php4/apache2/php.ini

Thanks

Just to finish this thread out, the problem was actually quite simple, embarrassingly simple! I was using an IP address in the setup for the database server. Simply using "localhost" fixed it. I have used IP addresses in other installations and just didn't think it would matter. The simple problems are always the hardest one to find...
