I have had my hosting for about a month now and XOOPS is not working, i need to upload XOOPS with an FTP program i downloaded and i do not know how,
please please please please please pleeeeeeeasle DO NOT
give me a link to WIKI or anything like that.

So far, i have uploaded the contents of the html folder from xoops, into the public_html folder of my server.
i see all the files there but what do i do next?
when i go into my server with my temporary URL, it just comes up with like a website of folders that you can click on that even has public_html folder there.
(i have click on it, does nothing)
what else do i do?
i have been told about the server side, and chmod and something else.
?

Does you host support PHP? by the sounds of it either it doesn't or they havent set it up correctly.

I'm thinking it is either:

1. all in the wrong place

2. none of the files in the html part are uploaded, only the folders that contain files. Like, where mainfile.php resides.

Upload alll the files from the html folder to your public_html folder on your website.

CHMOD 777 the uploads, cache and templates_c folders.

CHMOD 777 the mainfile.php file.

Browse tohttp://www.yourdomain.com/install/

Follow the instructions.

1. STOP THE BLOODY DOUBLEPOSTING!!!! How many times do we have to tell you this?

2. If you are seeing files and folders you have
a. Not uploaded all files and folders
b. A hosting package, which doesn't support PHP

No offence but i wasnt asking if my host supported
php. it does anyway (www.surpasshosting.com)
anyway...

i uploaded the contents of XOOPS html folder succesfully
to inside the public_html of my server, with SmartFTP.
it all uploaded succesfully but when i open my site with a temorary URL, it just comes up with like a directory of folders.

please can you tell me if at this stage i SHOULD be seeing the installation screen that they have in wiki?

Openhttp://www.domain.com/path/to/xoops/install/

NOT just the root directory.

If when you open the root directory and you just get a folder list either a) PHP is not installed on your host b) They have not set it up correctly which could be just a matter of adding index.php in the apache config file on the line where you specify index types.

Perhaps a directory listing of what you see when you type in the url might give us some clues?
Did you perhaps transer the folder called "html" to Public_html as opposed to just the contents?

Have you tried their forums on surpass?
