how do i check to see what version of mysql i am using

I dont know where to check to see what version of MySQL is. This may be a newb question but. I believe only stupid question is the one that is not asked. So any help with this would be appreciated and if you can tell me what versions of MySQL are compatible with no issues with older version of XOOPS would also be appreciated.

create a text file...put

<?php
  phpinfo();
?>


and name it "test.php" upload it to server and call it from your browser...and look at info

prolly should delete it after your done
