Corrupted database tables:

xoops_bb_post
xoops_bb_post_text
xoops_priv_msgs
xoops_stories
xoops_users
xoops_xoopscomments
xoops_xoopsgallery_image
xoops_notifications

These tables has the word "in use" across the "Records|Type|Size" column.

Which one of these modules is the vulnerable one? What does it take for a hacker to hack these tables?

Well, php can execute shell commands via '´' but i think XOOPS is sanityzed enough... you sure it was a hack?
Can't anything else have corrupted your database?

I thought I was going to have to do a clean install...instead I just deleted the contents of the templates_c directory,except for the index file, and was able to log back in that way. The admin interface had the same message you get at start-up ("this is your first time logging in as an Admin"), but after going through that everything was fine. In Admin>Preferences section, I changed my theme, as that was what had seemed to be corrupted.
