Just a simple question ...

Server: CPU Pentium 3,06 GHz
Memory 1 GB
HDD SeaGate 7200 rpm
Link Broadband 128 KBs
OS Windows 2000 Server

My question is: By using the XOOPS how many users can I handle at the same time before my server crashes down???

Thanks

Not to be obvious, but doesn't that depend rather on what the users are doing and how many hits per hour?

You can have millions of registered users, but if they only visit occasionally, you still have little traffic.

Based on your config, I would suspect that your broadband link would be a bottleneck before you feel the pain on your server. Still, if your server is dedicated, you should be able to support several dozens of concurrent users.

I have a 1.2 Ghz Athlon with 1GB of SDR RAM running 2 XOOPS sites and a host of other resource hungry services such as Exchange 2003 (which takes over 500MB of RAM just for itself) and I've found that my 512/512 kilobit SDSL link is saturated before I see any performance issues as a result of my server. So it's pretty safe to say that for you with 3 x the processing power and only 0.25 x the internet bandwidth that the link to the internet will well and trully be your limitation.

In the last week I've done quite a bit of web stress tests on my server, and was quite suprised to find that my 512/512 kilobit link is only good enough to support about a dozen reasonably active users at a time before the link is saturated and delays start to settle in. Best guestimate is that if your sever was only to be running a single XOOPS site, your server would be able to handle upwards of 60 users simultaneously, however, I expect you link will limit you to around a maximum of 6 users at a time.

Thanks, that's a quite complete explanation. I've planned to run just a single XOOPS site, and all I needed ( to start ) is kind a cheap broadband (money issue).

Thanks a lot ...
