Hi All,

I'm trying to set up a paid membership site (on a shoestring right now) and I'm trying to figure out a way to do this with xoops, I like it much better than all the others I've played with so far, and all I need it for in this instance is to take a 1 year subscription to a software/ebook downloads club, probably with PayPal.

I just haven't figured out a way to put a payment gateway in between the anon users main page and the create new user page.

Any ideas or examples of relatively simple solutions would be greatly appreciated.

This question has been talked about a lot. I don't think there has been an easy solution found, but you might get a lot of good ideas from this thread.

I read the thread all the way though, seems to be ALOT of interest in this, surprising that it isn't coded into "system" as a reg option, especially considering how many XOOPS sites I've seen with a PayPal donation block!
I tested an idea last night to disable new registrations and do it that way, but that won't work unless I manually add new users, way too inefficient...
However, what if I could disable (make invisible) the login/reg block and redirect successful payments to the page after they make payment? I.E. this page mysite.com/register.php and create a custom module that has the login block visible to get back in later?
Just and idea, as a simple fix, I'll try it and post back later, maybe someone reading this will understand what I mean and have a better solution.

what i would do is create a new group, called subscribed users, or something like that... then, they sign up a nick which has limited access (a normal user account) ... pay u through paypal, give em a message saying theyll be activated within a certain amount of time.. and add the user who paid to the subscribed users group which has full access.

This can also make it easily possible to setup basic, premium, and gold memberships, and is relatively easy. Just get a family member or trusted friend to activate members when ur away;)

Not completely automatic, but it is bug proof:)

Thanks for the pointer, I may have to do it semi automated, but fully automated is the goal (statistically you lose A LOT of buyers if they have to wait) and I've pretty much worked out a way to do it, not bad for a noobie non coder who can't even install a theme pack, eh?

I've set it up so that NO anon links resolve to the log in page. Once the payment is made the buyer is automatically redirected to registration to create a profile and paypal includes buyers email address in the from field. The payment address is on an auto responder which automatically sends a thanks and inludes a link to sections main page and redirects to log in page.

So it goes; click buy>>pay at paypal>>new user reg>>link in thank you email. All full automated, so far so good.

Two weaknesses I've found;
1. IF Admin profile is exposed to anon users, profile will expose links to log in page (and register link). This can be avoided and may have a work around.
2. In downloads, users can tell a friend (which most likely won't happen), the email sends a link to the file which redirects to log in page (and register link). I wanted to disable the extras in downloads (modify, tell a friend, etc.) as they are not needed, but I have not found a way to do this in any of the prefs. If I can work this one weakness out, there it is, a fully automated paid membership site, any ideas would be really appreciated, I would hate to start again or HAVE to do it semi automated.
