Hi there!

*** NEWBIE ALERT!!! ***

I have recently installed XOOPS and I have some questions about it... how well do you think it will function as a Band website?

I am in a band, and I am webmaster. Basically all we want are the following features:

* Blog style news colomn in the middle.
* Fans can log on as members, leave comments and download Mp3's
* Photo album of gigs
* Calendar of upcoming events
* Extra modules for things like editorials
* Simple, colorful layout with band logo on top
* Easy for the laymen to use
* Profesional look

We are a straight ahead pop band and want this site to be a site fully utilised by anyone, ie they can interact with content, leave comments etc.

What modules could effectively do this under XOOPS? Do you think XOOPs is the best choice for what I want to achieve? Can you point me to a band website that uses XOOPS? Are there any good themes that you'd recommend for a band/art related site? And do you like all my newbie questions?

Thanks! Any help, however small, is appreciated! I will post a link up once I get the show on the road!

Love,

Freddy Fender,

Thanks so much for your reply, Chainsaw!

I have started to put together the website at the moment... and it is slowly coming together. I am getting used to the way the module admin works, permissions etc. and it has been a lot of fun.. Thanks!!

Re: General Questions regarding XOOPS

For photo gallery, you might want to compare to xcGallery, which is based on Coppermine. It includes a rating feature that let's your users vote for the photos they like best. I hear good things about myAlbumP and xcGallery, but, give them both a look before you choose.

Opinions and samples here, in thread "What Photo Gallery Do You Recommend:
https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?viewmode=flat&topic_id=16531&forum=7

As for calendars:
AgendaX by wjue (free for non-commercial use?)
https://xoops.org/modules/mydownloads/singlefile.php?cid=24&lid=442

piCal by GIJoe
https://xoops.org/modules/mydownloads/singlefile.php?cid=24&lid=507

TinyEvent by Chapi (well maintained and new version in progress)
https://xoops.org/modules/mydownloads/singlefile.php?cid=24&lid=424

Hard to choose, I have nothing bad to say about any of them. If you are having trouble deciding, start with TinyEvent and if it does everything you need, then you are done. If not, continue on the list.

Here are a couple band sites:

http://stigmataband.tswn.com/

As you can see, you have full control over the colorful theme you choose.
