I have my top page module set to none -- but under my Blocks list I see no News row or any way to include a News block in the top page in this scenario. Sure I'm doing something stupid, but can't figure out what. Group permissions look OK, and news module is enabled.

Help!!

I am not one of the regular support types around here, so I should prob. shut up, as I prob don't really understand correctly what you're saying, but, are you SURE you want the news module turned off which is what happens when you set the news module to NONE??

Maybe try turning the news module on as your top page, then adjkust which news blocks you want to show each group from the blocks menu and from the groups menu.

If you want the main page to end up at news, like it does here at xoops.org, then you want the top page to be news.

If, as I was afraid of in my first paragraph, this is not what you were referring to and I have totally misunderstood what you are asking, please ignore this post and I'll slink off into the night (or daytime, depending on where you are ) HTH

Nonononono...

I want to set the Top Page default MODULE TYPE to NONE -- then mix and match blocks of different types on the top page. Part of the prob is that News does not even show as an option in the list of available block types under System Admin > Blocks.

It's not in your list of blocks because it is not strictly a block... it's a module.

Well, yeah, but so are Headlines, Downloads, and Web Links. So it might be more precise for me to ask how to treat, say, "recent news" as a block rather than all news.

There should be several news blocks showing in your blocks admin. Look in the columns for the module names in your blocks admin and see if any say news. You might need to choose the webmaster view of your blocks to see them if they're not showing up in the registered users view.

Not there even in Webmaster view -- which leads me to suspect I have something misconfigured:

You are sure that you have the news module activated in module admin? It sounds like the module is either not activated or it's not installed.

Absatively posolutely.

Active = Checked, Order = 1

So the blocks show in group permissions and not the blocks admin?
