The XOOPS Default Template Set can't be edited. You have to Clone it to create a new template set, which can be edited. After making your changes to the new template set, you also have to make the new template set the default in Preferences/General Settings.

Can someone please post the final resulting hack?

It's a little hard to follow because of the different suggestions. For instance, most interested in the one that is less DB heavy.

This version uses only a cookie, it runs perfectly with very big forums (i've tested it in a forum with more than 10.000 posts)

Your hack work fine here but I cannot mark read all messages from _all_ forums in one shot.

I have check the code and check a way to make it but if someone know how to make it, please tell it!

Perhaps it's more elegant to move "mark read" links to the forum index over every forum description like phpbb.

Thanks a lot, it work fine here.

I try to hack the code to put it in index.php to mark all forum and in viewforum for the current forum.

If i'm done, I will post the result here.
