Can I make it so that my members can upload their own avatars?

Yes, you can Fuse. Just go to your system admin > Preferences > User Info Settings and choose to allow members to upload their own avatars.

Yes you can, I think it's either in the module admin, or your main admin. Main Admin preferences I think. Just be sure to chmod your uploads directory (777 I think)

Beat you, Stew! You should already have the uploads folder chmod'ed to 777 anyway. It's part of the installation of Xoops.

system admin > Preferences > User Info

Make sure you tell your members that they need to select View account and then Avatar button then they can upload an avatar so long as it is under your Avatar Size Requirements.

ok, thanks. That was easy, I should have been able to find that myself.

One more newbb question. Can I make it so that flat is the default style?

Yes. Just go to general settings in your system admin preferences and choose to display comments as flat for default. Comments and Forums go hand in hand on Xoops.

Also, all your users can pick their own default view for the forums/comments in their profiles.

Nested is a good option also.. how big is your community? try them all and see what one looks the best for your site.

Yeah you did, I need to work on my finger twitch technique more

I didn't know it was defaulted to 777, maybe it was other writable directories that made me wonder. Hmm, xoopsgalery made me chmod the uploads to 777 me thinks.
