Hi..
XOOPS is crashing my web server because of this error below.

-
The script started from the URL '/user.php' with parameters '' has not responded within the configured timeout period. The HTTP server is terminating the script.
-

Can someone tell me how to fix this, or more info required to fix it?

URGENT!!!!!!!!

This is no server crash, this is a server timeout. It means that the connection you use is too slow, either with the db server or with the webserver. You could try setting the connection timeout time to 2 minutes or so (in your httpd.conf, if you're using apache)

Will making the time longer be a temporary quick-fix to the problem?

Also what if i am using a virtual host where i dont have access to these things?

The admin of the server told me it was opening about 20 processes of the user.php.. and this was slowing everything down to a halt.

Quick-fix: Change the Provider, if this slow down everything the Server must be very poor

if 20 processes of user.php is a problem on the server, then you can't have more then 20 people on your site. That should not be a problem. You could try setting the cookie session time to less time, but that will mean that if people are idle on your site for a while, they have to re-login. The server timeout problem is known before, but it can't be helped by the script. XOOPS is as light as it comes....

does persistent connections in mainfile.php have anything to do with this?

could very well be. Try setting that to '0'.

i had a look at the connection periods, its not the connection time, db or website.. what else could i look for..

just to remind you, this is the error.

it could be your user.php file is corrupted. reupload the original from the XOOPS core package.
